It’s not everyday that you find a piano lesson course that covers the inns and outs to playing gospel piano by ear. Jermaine Griggs Secrets to Playing the Piano by Ear does just that.

Jermaine tells it all in his 300 page Secrets to Playing the Piano by Ear book. He covers techniques, principles, and tips that will enable you to play melodies, songs, and chords by ear. The first few lessons cover sight reading, basic rhythm, and scales. He then moves quickly into the meatier stuff: major chords, inversions, progressions, modes, and minor scales.

There is a lot to learn from this book. If you find yourself having a hard time explaining musical concepts or get lost when other musicians are speaking music talk then this is a must have course. If you already know how to form scales and various types of chords such as major, minor, diminished, and augmented chords including extended chords such as sevenths, ninths, elevenths, and thirteenths then this may not be the course for you.

If you are a piano lesson addict then you need to have this book on your shelf. This book is loaded! It is jam packed with 300 pages of rock solid piano lesson materials. There are plenty of step by step instructions, diagrams, worksheets, and a couple of nifty little pieces of software that will test your mind and ears.

Lesson Materials – The quality is really good. There is nothing here to gripe about but I can’t give it a perfect score. It just didn’t wow me.

This is a very good book and it has tons of music lesson materials at a fraction of the cost of private lessons. The only downfall to me is the price but that did not keep this piano lesson addict from buying. The Secrets to Playing Piano by Ear is sure to keep your fingers busy for a long while!
