Musicophilia: Tales of Music and the Brain
I read an interesting article in the March issue of Scientific American Mind Magazine. It was about music and the effects it has on the brain.
The blog title, Musicophilia: Tales of Music and the Brain, is actually that of a book written by Oliver Sacks who is a neurologist that loves music. Oliver states that “music provides an interesting window into the mind.” He goes on to say that “music and language are deeply intertwined and that listening to music can involve striking illusions and perceptual disagreements.”
The article is very interesting. He believes that there “must be seperate neural bases for the perception of rhythm, melody and timbre and for the inegration of musical elements into coherent wholes.”
If this type of musical goodness interest you then I suggest getting the book and maybe even the magazine. Scientific American Mind usually has a music article on a monthly basis such as this one.
