Contemporary Music Theory Two Review

contemporary-theory-two.jpgOh no! Not again! I already went through one music theory book…now another! Come on, I know you are thinking it. This is not just another music theory book though. Contemporary Music Theory Level Two, by Mark Harrison, is just what the music theory doctor ordered. Level Two continues to build a solid music theory foundation which develops the musician’s ability to understand how music actually works.

Level Two picks up where Level One left off. It is now time to move into harmony and chord progressions. It does this by deriving and explaining musical concepts such as five-part chords, 2-5-1 style progressions, chord substitutions, harmonic analysis of tunes, voice leading, triad and four part upper structures, and pentatonic & blues scales along with their applications. Just as in level one, the concepts in level two are reinforced with the use of the text, the workbook questions, the workbook answers, and a glossary which contains all the new musical concepts that have been encountered.

If you are looking for a way to take your music to the next level then Contemporary Music Theory Level Two is it. Harrison really lays it down this time. He brings his musical tool belt to the piano and shows you how to remodel your music. You’ll be banging out fuller sounding tunes in no time. It is also bigger and badder (is badder a word?) than its predecessor. This time we have a massive 370 pages of musical genius for less than twenty six dollars. There really is no reason to spend hours with a teacher or hours searching the internet for free information. Everything you need is right here in this easy to follow self study book. Do yourself a favor….express yourself musically….let this book show you how.
