How to Play Popular Piano in 10 Easy Lessons

how to play piano in ten easy lessonsIs it possible to play piano in ten lessons? In today’s fast paced world it would be a definite plus. How to Play Popular Piano in 10 Easy Lessons, by Norman Monath, is here to save the day. Its objective is simple…to teach you the fastest and easiest way to learn to play piano from sheet music or by ear.

How to Play Popular Piano in 10 Easy Lessons is short and sweet. There are ten piano lessons spread across 141 pages. It follows a logical step by step approach that will have a pure beginner playing something once they complete all 10 lessons.

I like this book for many reasons. First, it is a pure pleasure to read. If you do not enjoy your lessons you will have a hard time wanting to learn. Second, it is kept simple. This is a must for a pure beginner. Someone that knows nothing about playing the piano does not need information overload. Third, I like the underlying philosophy Monath reveals throughout the book.

There is only one thing I do not like. These are beginner piano lessons and the beginner pianist is left out in the cold once they finish this book. This should not cause a big problem though. The internet or a private teacher can point the beginner in the right direction.

Conclusion:

Lesson Materials – The book is tough and mine has held up well. I know it doesn’t matter but I like the look of the cover. It is very inviting and makes me just want to open it up.

Rating: ★★★★★

Lesson Instruction – The piano lessons are very structured and stick to the point. You’ll learn all your basics about the piano, playing melodies, chords and songs, scales and chords, and some more difficult concepts such as altering chords, four part chords, and even playing by ear and improvising.

Rating: ★★★★★

Fun Factor – It is very enjoyable to read and uses songs most people are familiar with. I think a beginner would enjoy it because it would all be new territory. The rest of us piano lesson addicts might think otherwise.

Rating: ★★★½☆

Value – You can pick this up for 10-15 bucks. It does what it states it does and the principle behind the book was worth it even without the lessons.

Rating: ★★★★★

How to Play Popular Piano in 10 Easy Lessons deserves a spot on my bookshelf. If you are a beginner, like to read, or addicted to piano lessons then I would go pick this up for sure.
