Gospel Keyboard Styles is a guide to the harmony, rhythm, and melody in authentic gospel style. To keep it simple it is split up into two parts. First are the slow gospel styles and then the fast gospel styles. Each style is looked at rhythmically in terms of accompanying and melodically in terms of soloing. Everything is charted out and then each chart is followed by an analysis.

I like this book because it is to the point and focuses in on one type of music. It is a stylistic approach which suits me rather well. For some; however, this might be a problem because basic chordal theory is left out in favor of harmonic, rhythmic, and melodic concepts.

If you want to learn gospel styles and already understand how music tends to move then this book will serve you well. If you want to play gospel piano and are a beginner this book will disappoint. All in all it is hard to go wrong when you can pick this up for around twelve dollars. I say go for it if you understand it is not a piano lesson method; rather, it is a stylistic approach that requires you to have experience with the basic elements of playing the piano already down.
